Bio
The L.A. Swing Barons are a 14-piece big band inspired by the vibrant dance halls of the 1930s swing era. Based in Los Angeles, we aim to play the energetic music of bands like the Count Basie Orchestra, Duke Ellington, Andy Kirk, and others that shaped the golden age of swing.
Last year was very busy for us with regular performances throught L.A. and O.C., as well as a three-week cross-country summer tour where we played 10 shows in 8 cities including New York City, Chicago, Kansas City, Cleveland, and more. We have played many venues and festivals throughout Los Angeles, Orange County, Central California, and the San Francisco Bay Area. Our first studio album entitled Kansas City Stride was released in late 2017.
Our band consists of a full rhythm and horn section, as well as vocalists that capture the spirit of Jimmy Rushing and Billie Holiday. Our standard configuration includes a vocalist, 4 saxophones, 3 trumpets, 2 trombones, drums, bass, piano, and guitar.
